Sutton is 4! I don't know where time has gone. I absolutely love this stage and am constantly wishing I could slow things down or better yet - press pause. Sutton brings so much joy to our family and I love watching him grow up. Here are all things "Sutton" that I can think of.
We use the sign for "I love you" a lot in our family. Sutton learned how to do it. At first it was a very labored process and you could see him mentally willing each finger into the desired position. With lots of practice he got much better. Now he flashes the sign ALL. THE. TIME. It's absolutely adorable.
Sutton never opens his eyes at nap time. Let me clarify...sometimes it takes him a minute to calm down but once he decides to close his eyes that's all he wrote! He lays down, closes his eyes, and falls right asleep, especially when you cuddle him. He never reopens them to look around or adjust his pillow or whatever.
He calls me "Mamacita." He typically calls me that when I'm asking him to do something. He will reply "Okay Mamacita!" Sutton has recently started telling Chad, "Okay Daddy-cita!"
Sutton loves talking to Alexa. I am amazed that she can understand his commands most of the time. He definitely still talks like a toddler and can be tricky to interpret if you are not used to talking with little ones. Every once in awhile she won't understand his request and he gets so frustrated. His most frequent request is to play obnoxious songs that he has learned from his brothers.
He LOVES frozen waffles with nutella. He would happily eat this every single morning for breakfast. Sometimes if I'm taking too long to get to the kitchen he will even take bites out of the frozen waffles.
Sutton loves his baby blanket. He has a meltdown if he realizes I am washing it. He cuddles up with it every night and nap time. He even carries it around the house occasionally.
He echoes Keller on a VERY consistent basis. That boy worships Keller. Pretty much any time I ask them a question Sutton will wait for Keller to answer and then say the exact same words with the exact same intonation. He also imitates Keller's actions. If Keller walks down the hall and jumps into the kitchen, then Sutton will do the exact same thing. I hope Keller continues to make good choices as he matures because Sutton is definitely watching.
Sutton's favorite colors are silver and gold. Random right?!
He loves to wear a coat with shorts. So many times when he goes to play outside he puts on athletic shorts and shirt with a super heavy jacket.
Sutton is a smarty pants. We have started doing reading lessons with him using the same program I used to teach Vance and Keller. He is doing great and I feel like he is catching on fairly easy. We have lots of lessons to go but it is a solid start at least!
He frequently sneaks away to Grandma's house. If we can't find him we now the first place to go looking. He LOVES being over there. We even had to install higher locks that he couldn't reach to keep him in our house. I try not to take it too personal...grandmas are the best.
Sutton is obsessed with wearing pajamas, especially one piece pajamas. We had to implement more rules about pajama wearing because he literally wanted to wear them all day, every day. Now he knows we have to eat dinner and bathe before pajamas go back on. When he asks for dinner at 2:00 pm I know what he is really asking for is to change into pajamas.
He is a fiery one! When he feels wronged you better watch out because he gets angry. He has a pretty serious stank face and his first instinct is to yell. We are always working on this but definitely think he will probably always be a little feisty. It's that red hair I guess!
Sutton is left-handed. Every once in awhile he still uses his right hand but he does all tasks significantly better as a lefty.
He has the prettiest milky white skin with the most adorable freckles ever. Add that to his pretty blue eyes and red hair and you get the most adorable little boy!
Sutton does NOT want to be called Suttonbaby. I still call him that all the time and probably always will but he likes to correct me and ask that I call him "Sutton-big boy." Nope...sorry Suttonbaby!
He is a TV watcher and would happily binge watch Netflix. I have to be very aware of how long he has been watching a show because he will watch forever if I let him.
Sutton and Keller still sleep together in one twin bed. If Keller is gone for some reason, he will go sleep with Vance in his bed. He pretty much won't go to bed by himself. I guess that's what happens when you're the baby. It has been so long since he slept in a room by himself that he HATES it. Sending him to bed by himself is the ultimate punishment for him. He says his favorite bed is Mommy's bed but he knows that only happens a few times a year.
He is a horrible eater. Not only is he picky, he takes forever and would prefer you to feed him. Feeding a four-year-old is ridiculous but sometimes I want him to eat something healthy so bad I cave. He will usually eat it but he would rather talk or play or just be silly than actually eat at mealtimes. As he gets older it is getting a little older but I still think he is probably the most difficult eater in the family. Vance has always been easy. Keller is picky but will eat enough variety that it's typically fine. Sutton is picky but the foods he is picky about are always changing!
Sutton loves to fish. He actually good probably outlast Vance and Keller at the fishing pond. He is a needy fisherman but doesn't get sick of constantly casting and reeling it back in.
His face is so expressive. I just love the way his entire face lights up, especially his eyes. He is excited about life and it shows!
Sutton hates tags in his clothes. If he happens to find a clothing item that still has a tag in it (which is rare now), he promptly gets the scissors for me to cut it out. I'm glad he is my last kid because passing down clothes without the tag and size on it would be much harder to organize!
He is the best cuddler. He knows just how to curl up and fit perfectly by you. Then he just settles in and doesn't wiggle around a lot. It's the best!
Sutton loves Mavy (Chad's truck he got from his grandpa). He would like to take that any time we go anywhere.
He loves going to preschool. He recently started going to school four days a week because he seemed a little bored at home with me. He has absolutely loved going to school more and doesn't seem to miss me at all. We try to make up for the lost time on Fridays :)
Sutton - you brighten our world and definitely make our family complete. We love you and wish we could press pause right now!
