My dad and I got plowed into by a car. Apparently the kid was eating and didn't see us stopped, waiting to make a left-hand turn. I looked in my rearview mirror a fraction of a second before he hit us and pressed the gas. He never even hit the brakes. We were all okay but the cars...not so much.
It was with a heavy heart that we said goodbye to Old Bessie. We loved that car and hoped to drive it a few more years but it was officially totaled. Honestly the most devastating part is that we owned her and REALLY didn't want to have a car payment right now. Sometimes life just doesn't go according to plan dang it!
We decided that for this next phase of our life it would probably be a good time to have a full-size SUV. We go on lots of road trips and with three active fellas we usually have a trunk full of sports equipment.
The timing to be in the market for a car was the worst! The used car inventory for what we were looking for was horrible. The few used cars we could find seemed overpriced and showed more wear and tear than we would've liked. We looked everywhere: Carmax, Carvana, Vroom, Craigslist, Facebook, Autonation, etc.
Reluctantly we decided to look at new cars. However the dealership's inventories are also ridiculously low due to a shortage of chips being manufactured that basically go in to every car. I spent an entire day calling every single Chevrolet dealership (we decided on a Suburban) in the DFW metroplex. Just look at this paper with all my notes. Even if we could find a vehicle, lots of dealers were charging up to $15,000 over MSRP. Such. A. Joke.
The only vehicle I could find that matched everything we wanted wasn't going to be able for 8-10 weeks. We weren't really in a position to wait that long so I was getting pretty frustrated. We were going on a road trip the very next week and really needed to find a new car.
Then Javier called and made my day! He went on his lunch break and noticed a new car had been delivered and wasn't even on the lot yet. It was a GMC Yukon XL and had everything we were looking for. He couldn't take a deposit so I literally stopped what I was doing and went to the dealership.
The car was exactly what we were looking for and we are proud new owners of a Yukon XL (name TBD). It has all the bells and whistles and will exceed our family's needs for this next phase of all the boys growing into teenagers.
I think Chad and I both took about a week to get over how much we had to spend. We really, really wanted to keep driving the Traverse. We never would've made this purchase but we are already enjoying the extra space and features.
The boys are over the moon and we are too!
