Sutton is at such a fun stage right now. He is old enough to do the "big kid" things but still young enough that Mommy and Daddy can still fix all of his problems. I can't believe he is already 6! Here are my ramblings about Sutton at 6 years old -
He is your typical baby of the family. He is here for the party and doesn't really want to do the work. We is the first to declare when something isn't fun and is highly skilled at getting out of a task. He knows just when to flash his smile and can melt your heart with his adorable laugh. He is all about any life hacks. If it makes his life simple than he is doing it. For example, he will sleep on top of his covers so he doesn't have to make his bed. He will try to hop in the bath and get wet but not use soap. He will stuff all of his laundry in two drawers. Now we do make him correct these behaviors but is doesn't seem to slow down the number of corners he tries to cut.
Sutton loves to play with his brothers. They are definitely his best friends. He and Keller have an especially close friendship and spend hours playing outside with the neighborhood kids. They jump on the trampoline, ride scooters, play street hockey, swim, build Legos, kick a soccer ball, etc. Sutton looks up to Vance and jumps at the opportunity to play video games with him or sleep in his bed.
He is a dog lover. He loves Babe and Autumn and gives them so many cuddles. On the weekends he frequently falls asleep next to one of them on the dog bed. He wants dog books, stuffed dogs to play with, dog coloring pages, etc.
Sutton is doing fantastic at school. He is a great little reader but he loves math. His teacher says he is an example to his classmates and she can always count on him to help her or other students when necessary.
He is quiet. Now at home he is silly and talkative but when he is at school, sports, or really anything with people besides just our family he is very, VERY quiet. He prefers to sit back and observe the group. He definitely never wants the spotlight on him and gets really nervous if it is. He is slowly getting more comfortable talking to adults and I'm proud of him every time he does because I know how scary it can be for him.
Sutton loves to be home. He wants to sign up for activities but he wants/needs plenty of time to just be home. His school day is long so I think he is still a little tired most afternoons and the thought of having to go somewhere else wears him out.
He has a temper! Sometimes I see it coming and then other times he will have an angry fit over the smallest thing. Let's just say he is really...passionate...
Sutton has the most adorable smile and giggle. His entire face just lights up when he smiles and you can't help but smile back. His giggle comes from his gut and is one of my favorite sounds every.
He hates to pick up after himself. Oftentimes when he is bored he'll refuse to get out toys because he knows he will have to pick them up. He would rather sit and do nothing than have to put a handful of things away. Silly boy!
Sutton is learning to play the piano. He is catching on quick for his age and has almost completed the first book. He is used to seeing his brothers practice so I think he knows the drill. I love when he sings his songs!
He loves junk food. He would prefer to never eat a fruit or vegetable. Every meal he knows he has to have produce but tries to get out of it. He sneaks over to Grandma's house for goodies as often as he can. He is slowly starting to discover a few healthy things he likes but the struggle is real.
Sutton loves to print out coloring sheets and color at his desk in Chad's office. He will have us print out 3 or 4 at a time. When he finishes each page, he proudly displays it on the fridge.
He likes to play video games. He only has video game privileges two days a week but you can guarantee he will be maximizing his play time to the fullest. His favorite games are Rocket League (it's like soccer with cars) and Minecraft.
Sutton frequently walks with a little extra pep in his step. It's hard to describe. It isn't quite a skip but there is some type of hop when he walks. I like to think he is just too full of life to walk slow and boring.
He loves to play board games. He is a strategic little guy and catches on to new games quickly. He has a few favorites but is always willing to try something new. Playing a game is one of his favorite ways to have one-on-one time.
Sutton loves pickles. Any time I say he needs a healthy snack, his go-to is pickles. His second choice is cucumbers.
He is athletic. I think he is so good at sports because he is always trying to keep up with Keller and Vance. When we finally gets to play with kids his own age it feels like they're playing half-speed to him. Right now he is playing soccer and deck hockey. He wanted to try basketball but we decided to have him wait one more year. He is also happy to hit some baseballs in the backyard or go play tennis at the park. I can't wait to see what activity he really loves as he matures but I'm fairly confident it will be a sport.
Sutton is fully in the stage of thinking all things fart, butts, balls, etc. are hysterical. It isn't my favorite but I do love the giggles that accompany these topics.
On the weekends he stays up so much later than Keller and Vance did when they were his age. We don't really have a strict bedtime on non-school nights so he eventually passes out on the couch. He wants to be a part of the fun as long as possible.
He loves Chad and prefers to be working side-by-side whenever possible. Sometimes they are at their desks in Chad's office (Sutton put his desk right next to Chad's) or he will follow Chad around and assist on a house project. Then my usually quiet boy will talk Chad's ear off. It is so sweet how much he looks up to his daddy.
Sutton is fairly cautious. He wants to see everyone else try something before he does and if he has made his mind up, he doesn't typically let you convince him otherwise.
His favorite clothes are whatever is on top in his drawer. He doesn't care if he matches, if it has holes, or it's dirty and he put it back in the drawer instead of the hamper. He wants comfort!
Sutton loves to snuggle in the mornings. He especially loves the weekends when he can climb right in the middle of Chad and me in our bed. He is the best cuddler!
He doesn't really play with toys. In fact we have gotten rid of just about all of them. It seems weird to not have very many but he prefers to be outside, on electronic, or playing a game.
Sutton wants everything to be fun. If it isn't fun he doesn't understand why he should spend his time going it. It's kind of funny when you ask him to do something and he just looks back and says, "But that's not fun." The look on his face says he thinks that should be a good enough reason not to do it.
He is sneaky. He is so quiet and has mastered flying under the radar when necessary. He also has no qualms telling someone not to tell Mom or Dad something he is doing. Sometimes after we put him into bed we will find him playing in a different room with the door shut. Or out of the corner of your eye you'll see him running back into his room when you never realized he left it. We are going to have to be on our A-game when he is a teenager.
Suttonbaby we love you and all the energy you bring to our family. Life is never boring with you!
